Elisa Gatto - Environmental Biologist
Elisa is an Environmental Biologist registered in the National Order of Biologists, consultant in environmental and HACCP. She has a Master's degree in Environmental Sciences obtained in 2017 with 110/110 cum laude and a PhD in Biological and Environmental Sciences and Technologies obtained in the Laboratory of Urban Micrometeorology at the University of Salento in 2022.
Work
Her work and research activity are focused on three big themes: Health, Sustainability Urban and Land planning. Over the past 5 years, she has studied, using smart computer tools and fluid dynamic models, how vegetation affects microclimate, air quality, and thermal comfort in the urban environment. Through her study she has developed an investigation and study methodology for the redevelopment, recovery and regeneration of degraded urban and rural areas subjected to anthropic pressures and the effects of climate change.
She has collaborated in the scientific research activity of the Apulia Region project “INTEGRATED LANDSCAPE PROJECT IN AREAS COMPROMISED AND DEGRADED BY XYLELLA D.G.R. n. 2265 of 02/12/2019: L.R. 67/2018 art. 19 – Inland Area of South Salento”.
She has carried out her research activities in Lecce, Rome and Lahti (Finland) and has presented some of her results in international scientific conferences (HARMO19, ITM19).
She is author and co-author of 12 scientific articles in international peer-reviewed journals, Topic Editor of the journal “Atmosphere” (ISSN 2073-4433) (MDPI) and Guest Editor of the Special Issue, belonging to the section “Biometeorology”, “The Role of Urban Vegetation Management and Planning in Climate Change Adaptation Strategies”.
In 2020 she attended the entrepreneurial training workshop “Contamination Lab” at the University of Salento where she learnt the fundamentals of Project Management, Team building, Team working and Communication. With the business idea TOURISMAPP won a special mention “Information Communication & Media Technology” in the Competitive pitch session of the START CUP PUGLIA – 2020.
Divemaster PADI
She is a PADI Divemaster and a member of the APOGON Underwater Speleology Centre, which has been active for 20 years in Nardò (Puglia, Italy) and deals with the systematic study of the main underwater cavities in Salento and the Otranto Channel. She has collaborated and still collaborates with the QGENVIRO Association, active in raising awareness of sustainability through non-formal education and practical activities aimed at children and adults.
